An illegal immigrant from Mexico, accused of killing one person and wounding two others on board a fishing vessel over the weekend, would have been allowed to stay in the United States as a beneficiary of the DACA.
Fox News learned exclusively that 27-year-old Franklin Freddy Meave Vazquez was an illegal alien in the United States until he received a deferred action under the DACA program on November 30, 2013. The program targets children illegally brought to the country by their parents.
Vazquez's legal status was set to expire on November 29, 2015. He applied for renewal, but his application was rejected on August 16, 2016 – almost a year after his DACA status had already expired. The documents indicate that his application was denied for abandonment, which means that he may not have responded to a request for information or never appeared for a required appearance.
Franklin Freddy Meave Vazquez was arrested in March in Virginia after Newport News police said he had attempted to strangle his wife and then held him hostage.

While in the United States, Vazquez was arrested in March on charges of forcible abduction, intimidation or deception, but was released on bail of $ 20,000.
Similarly, Vazquez was released on bail after Sunday's deadly attack – despite the objections of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Prosecutors have stated in an indictment that Captain Billy Haver, a fishing vessel, sailed about 55 miles off Nantucket with seven crew members when Vazquez assaulted a crew member with a hammer in a hand and a knife in the other.
Two of the injured crew members were taken aboard a nearby cruise ship that responded to the captain's distress call, and one of them was declared dead by the ship's doctor.
Vazquez was accused of a murder and a murder attempt leader. He must return to court on Tuesday; He could face life imprisonment and a $ 500,000 fine if he is found guilty. He will also be deported after serving a potential sentence.
