A man from Jacksonville was arrested on Saturday morning in Pasco County after approaching a local MP to try to surrender.

The Pasco County sheriff's deputy left the RaceTrac service station at 27140 S.R. 56, at Wesley Chapel, when a man approached him in the parking lot. According to the sheriff's office, 29-year-old Marco Stephens appeared to have blood "on the front of his clothes" and told the MP that he was going to kill himself, but decided to go instead.

Stephens was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife in Jacksonville. He was arrested by MPs from Pasco County and until detectives from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrived to bring him back to North Florida.

According to the local News4Jax TV channel, MPs found Ashley Stephens, 34, dead on the parking lot of an apartment complex. Just before 12:30 pm, police were called to investigate shots fired in the area. News4Jax reported that Stephens had been found while driving his ex-wife's car in Pasco County.
