A man trying to give up his smoking habit "almost died" after accidentally sucking up some of his electronic cigarette into his lungs and having to undergo surgery to remove it.
Alan O'Brien, 40, inspired the mouthpiece of the vape into his trachea and found himself out of breath.
The store's manager, O-Brien, was left "whistling" while he was breathing through the vape's upper garment whose scans revealed that he was lodged in the opening of his lung.
He was rushed to the intensive care unit and the surgeons removed the plastic – and are now considering publishing it in medical journals.
"People are saying that smoking will kill you, but I might be better off with cigarettes, it seems safer," said O. Brien of Warrington. "The trail I took must have been powerful – I guess I just went a little too far with it – I can joke about it now, but it was rather scary, hissing while I was talking." I thought to myself, "I can not go on like that long, it's ridiculous."

"The hospital asked permission to use the photos in medical journals because they had never seen it," he said. "I guess I'm a lesson on how not to vape."
O & # 39; Brien opened the Paris boutique where he worked and enjoyed his first "smoke" of the day with his SMOK menthol baby e-cig last Monday.
"I had two minutes before starting to work, so I think I was just trying to smoke a cigarette," he added. "I went with a little too much enthusiasm and the mouthpiece was detached and went straight into my throat." I was stifling, I could not breathe anymore. Panic is installed as you can imagine. "
"I did not receive any other staff until 11.30 am It seemed like an age but I could not breathe at all for about 10 to 15 seconds," he said. "I finally got my breath back and tried to make him sick, but I could feel him stuck."
Not realizing the seriousness of the situation, O & # 39; Brien continued to work until the arrival of paramedics.
They took her to the Warrington A & E hospital, where doctors had trouble finding the X-ray nozzle because it was black.
"They asked me if I could have coughed, but I knew I did not do it," he said.

A CT scan revealed that the nozzle was in her trachea – the trachea – and not her alimentary tube – the esophagus – and that she was perilously perched just in the opening of her lungs.
"I was breathing through and if that had passed by, I would have been dead," he said. "If he had slipped in, he could have collapsed the lung, which could have been fatal very quickly."
O 'Brien was rushed to the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, directly in intensive care, but had to wait all night for the operation as he had eaten an egg sandwich.
He underwent bronchoscopy under general anesthesia and the surgeons removed the e-cigarette part with the help of a camera and tweezers last Wednesday.
"I think I'm going to play cautiously for the moment and that I'm going to stick to cigarettes," said O & # 39; Brien, who is completely healed.
