BELLINGHAM, Wash – A suspect is in police custody after assaulting a man who died of his injuries on a trail near Meador Street in Bellingham on Saturday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing a man matching the description associated with two other assaults on Saturday, going with blood on his clothes and his hands.

At 11:05, the Bellingham police responded to calls from a woman being hit in the face by a stranger who then went on a bicycle. A short time later, another man was assaulted near Lincoln and Potter Street by a man who met the description of the first assailant.

The woman suffered minor injuries and the man was serious but did not put his life in danger. The investigation is ongoing and, according to Bellingham police, none of the victims are new or mutually suspicious.

The 33-year-old suspect was incarcerated in Whatcom County Jail for a probable cause of first-degree murder, second-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.
