Georgian authorities announced on Monday that a man driving his three-month-old daughter on his lap had placed the baby on a handgun stolen on the floor of a car after the police stopped him. on a busy highway, The Atlanta Journal -Constitution reported.

Detavis Madison, 24, reportedly told police officers in Snellville that there was no one else inside the vehicle. But when the police inspected Madison's car, they found her daughter sitting on the gun, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Police said they found marijuana and nearly "600 ecstasy pills shaped like Lego characters," according to the channel.

"It's obviously a dangerous situation for the baby on many fronts," said police lieutenant John Tainter at the Snellville police. "We are just happy that this has happened for the better."

Madison reportedly told the police that he was about to stop to change the baby's diaper.

Police said Madison was arrested and the baby was given to her mother. Authorities seized the car, reported Channel 2 news.

Madison remains in detention without bail. Records from Gwinnett County Jail indicate that Madison faces charges of theft, drug misdemeanor and transportation of a child in a passenger car, among other charges.

Snellville is about a 30-minute drive northeast of Atlanta.
