A white man who shot a black teenager who came to his home to ask for instructions was found guilty Friday of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm.

The trial of Jeffrey Zeigler, 52-year-old man from Rochester Hills and retired firefighter from Detroit, opened on October 8th. The jury heard several witnesses, including the teenager himself, and returned the verdict of guilty on Friday. The prosecution was hoping to sentence Zeigler for assault with intent to murder, which could have meant life imprisonment.

Jeffrey is yet to appear in court on November 13 for sentencing.

Last April, 14-year-old Brennan Walker told police she was missing her school bus and knocked on the door of the 53-year-old Zeigler in Rochester Hills after being lost while she was heading to high school.

Brennan said he ran after seeing a man inside the house take a gun. He heard a shot, but was not hurt.

Fox 2 reported that Rochester's wife, Dana, was the first to see the teenager at the door and then wake up her husband who grabbed a shotgun.

"He did not look like a child. He was a tall enough man who stood there.Furthermore, when he was going to school, we would not have a child. school in our region, "she told the court Tuesday.

A surveillance video was taken from Zeigler's porch and showed him hounding Walker in the yard.

Channel 4 got the video here.

Zeigler said in court this week that he was remorseful and that he knew perfectly well that he had done something wrong.

Brennan and her mother, Lisa Wright, told WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) earlier this year that they thought the shooting was racist.
