State soldiers were called to the Palmer Sunrise Grill on Thursday night to assist in a conflict that turned into a deadlock, the television channel reported. They found a man holding a "big sharp object" while he was perched at the restaurant, reported KTUU.

The suspect then jumped from the roof to a fire truck and ran away.

"The situation eventually resulted in gunshots at the corner of Evergreen and Dimond," said Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters at a press conference .

The suspect was shot and died as a result of his injuries, Peters said.
