DETROIT – A 46-year-old man was shot dead by police Friday morning as officers executed a search warrant in a house in the 9200 block of Evergreen Road in Detroit.
Family members of a 5-year-old girl, killed in a shootout Thursday night in another Detroit home, said the home of Evergreen Road was that of the girl's father.
Detroit Police Cpt. Kurt Warboys said a homicide task force went home around 4:50 am on Friday to execute the warrant. Warboys said the 46-year-old man was on the couch when the police entered the house. The man was armed with an AR gun, said the police, and raised the weapon. The weapon was charged with security, the police said.
The Warboys said the officers had "neutralized" the situation. One of them shot the man, killing him.
The house is on Evergreen Road, near Westfield Avenue. Police blocked Evergreen Road in both directions.
5 year old girl killed the night before
Family members said the fatal shooting on Friday morning was linked to the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old girl on Thursday night during a home invasion in the 19,000 block of Lyndon Street. .
"An armed black man entered the house and fired shots," said the Detroit police chief. Elaing Bryant. . "The armed black man fled, we do not know if on foot or in a vehicle, or in which direction."
Police did not wait for emergency medical services and took the 5 – year – old child to Sinai – Grace Hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries. The mother was taken by ambulance to Sinai-Grace and she went from critical condition to stable condition.
Warboys said the Detroit police chief should provide more information on this case at a press conference Friday afternoon.
