Dozens of people have declared a boycott against Ryanair, a low-cost airline based in Dublin this weekend, after the video of an apparently racist clash over a recent flight that surfaced on the internet.
David Lawrence, a resident of the United Kingdom, told HuffPost that he had filmed the video on October 18, prior to a Ryanair flight FR9015, an afternoon flight, connecting Barcelona to the United States. London Stansted Airport.
The video shows a white man screaming because he does not want to sit next to an elderly black woman. Another woman, who appears to be the eldest woman's daughter, scolded the man for shouting after him and asked him to "give him a chance!"
A male flight attendant tried to defuse the situation and asked the woman if she wanted to sit elsewhere, which she had initially refused.
As the confrontation continued, the man called his siege companion a "dirty black bastard" and shouted, "Do not talk to me in a foreign language, you ugly and stupid cow!"
He also threatened the woman with violence: "I'll tell you," said the man. "If you do not go to another seat, I'll put you to another seat."
The woman finally asked if she could go to her daughter's house.
Lawrence posted the video on his Facebook page an hour after the showdown. It has since been seen 1 million times.
Ryanair did not return HuffPost's requests for comment.
Many people have blamed the flight crew for not expelling the man from the flight and allowing the woman to move seats in place of him.
Several members of the British and Scottish Parliament have asked Ryanair to report the man to the police for his abusive behavior.
"It should have been removed from the plane and handed over to the police," said MP Karl Turner. "We assume the plane was in the UK. If that was the case, he would certainly have committed criminal offenses. "
Ryanair, headquartered in Ireland, has not published any official response to the video.
Lawrence told HuffPost that neither the pilot nor the flight attendants asked the man to change seats or leave the flight after the incident.
"I spoke to the pilot at the end of the flight," Lawrence said. "He suggested that we file an official complaint with Ryanair."
The low-cost airline has the reputation of being a company that offers only the minimum service, charging customers more for basic services including printing their business cards. boarding and group seating.
Ryanair marketing director Kenny Jacobs told a travel industry conference that "the company was the fastest growing airline and we were low cost bastards," according to Quartz.
