NEWPORT, N.C. (CBS) – A happy meeting for a man and his two best friends. They are together again after surviving Hurricane Florence.
Jack Denton says he's doing everything he can for his two dogs, ACDC and Babes.
"They are like my kids," says Denton.

Denton and his ACDC dogs and Babes were separated when Florence hit North Carolina. Like previous storms, Denton believed that he and the dogs could get out of their home in Newport.
However, Denton says that he had to leave his dogs behind because he literally had to swim out of his house.
"When I woke up, the storm was still being felt. I had to swim from home because I'm disabled, "recalls Denton.
And with this difficult decision, Denton had to leave his dogs behind him.
Rescuers found the dogs while navigating the flooded street and used social media to connect them to Denton.
"As we went out, the heavens opened. It was raining, "explains Nicole Kincaid of the Cause for the Paws of North Carolina.
Four rescuers from the Wake County non-profit organization crossed this flooded street. Further down, they found ACDC and Babes stranded on a roof.

"The woman of both was very grateful to jump into the boat," Kincaid explains.
Despite this, it took rescuers two extra hours to knock down the other dog.
"We did not leave him," adds Kincaid.
They made it safe, but still did not know who the dogs belonged to before social media connected them to Denton.
They were gathered Wednesday.
"I'm just jumping out of my heart. I'm excited to see them because I did not expect to get them back, "says Denton.
Now that Denton, ACDC and Babes are together, he has plans for the future.

"I hope to rebuild and see if I can improve my home," Denton adds.
Cause for Paws will give Denton and his dogs drugs and food for a year.
