A man attempted to attack a press car in Houston Monday, before mastering the police and stealing their patrol car, officials said.
NBC-affiliated journalist Sofia Ojeda and NBC-affiliated photographer Damon Sales were at the intersection of Texas Streets and Christian Streets in the downtown area around 5:40 am (New York time) when they were swept away by another driver – who then demanded their news truck, the station announced.
He said, "I steal your vehicle. I steal your vehicle, "Sales told KPRC." He tried to get me out. We are curly, and he says: "Get out! Get out! Get out & # 39; "
Moments later, when two Houston police officers showed up, the car thief pushed one of them, pulled the other out of the car, and then left with their car cruise, said the police and the KPRC.
The patrol car had a juvenile suspect in the back when it was taken, the station said. The hijacker let him out a few blocks away and the young suspect reported another police car, KPRC reported.
The stolen police car was found three miles away in a wooded area near Old Spanish Trail and Produce Row, the authorities said. The suspect was not caught immediately.
Ojeda, Sales and the two officers were examined at a nearby hospital and released, officials said.
The reporter and photographer were traveling to Minute Maid Park to film the Houston Astros returning from their US League game in Boston on Sunday night.
