WALTERBORO, South Carolina –

One community rallied behind a cancer survivor who said he was asked to cover his face while he was in a South Carolina restaurant.

Kirby Evans said he regularly attended Forks Pit in Walterboro, but when he went to eat there on Monday, he was caught off guard.

"I felt someone reaching out to take me like this and jerk me off in his office," Evans said.

Evans stated that the person who caught her was working at the restaurant. The employee told him that if he wanted to eat at the restaurant, he should cover his face.

Evans lost his nose and his eyes during a battle against cancer, which he won. He said that the demands of the employee were downright offensive.

"It hurt me deep down, I had never been treated like that, ever," he said.

Shortly after the incident on Monday, Evans' daughter, Brandy, published an article about it on Facebook, which became viral.

"I'm really proud to see everyone gather around him and let him know that he's not forced to hide his scars in combat," Brandy said.

Brandy also stated that the employee involved commented on the position as follows:

"I DID NOT IN ANY CASE TRY TO INJURY YOUR FATHER" and "I HAD NO CHOICE! IT MOVED MY CLIENT."

The incident even resulted in the resignation of one of the restaurant's employees.

"It's my resignation, I'm fed up with this place," said Forks employee Brandy Harley.

Fortunately, Kirby Evans is not as focused on the incident as on the support provided by the rest of his community.

"I tell you what, I did not know that there were so many people who cared, but there are, they are everywhere there," he said.
