Maryland scorers, Matthew Barber, were assaulted by a teammate after training on Tuesday, the day former coach DJ Durkin was briefly reinstated from his leave, the president said. Baltimore Sun. Barber was one of the current players of the Terrapins who spoke out against the culture of the program.

"We take very seriously any case involving physical altercations," said sports director Damon Evans. "We are talking to the stakeholders and will take appropriate action based on the facts."

Barber would have been one of the current players who spoke to investigators about the state of the program, which gave pro-Durkin players the opportunity to call those on the other side during the 24-hour reinstatement of Durkin. After Tuesday 's training, Barber said the unnamed player had initiated the altercation and that other players were holding Barber' s arms as the attack continued.

"My shirt was bleeding," said Barber at the Baltimore Sun. "I had blood on my hands."

The incident would have occurred on the same day as several Maryland players have come out from a team meeting in which Durkin told players that he was reinstated. It is not known if Barber was one of these players, but it confirms the information on the discord in the locker room of Terrapins players.

Durkin was fired Wednesday after a long investigation opened by the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair in June. Since then, a culture of fear that included the mistreatment of players in different ways, including workouts that exceeded expectations, Durkin's lack of oversight of former coach Rick Court, and coaches bothersome.

Maryland's president, Wallace Loh, commented on the change of opinion on Durkin's head coaching status in a statement released Wednesday.

"Since returning to campus after the press conference yesterday, I have met with the leaders of the Student Government Association, who have spoken on behalf of many student organizations." The Senate Executive Committee; deans, department heads, as well as campus leaders, concerns about DJ Coach Durkin's return to campus, "said Loh in a statement.
