A Massachusetts man was reportedly arrested Sunday after apparently buried an 18-year-old dog because he did not get along with his cat.
Richard Piquard, 24, of Whitinsville, buried "Chico", a Shih Tzu dog, behind his house while he was still alive, said Northbridge Police Chief Walter Warchol at the Telegram & Gazette.
"Even in my 41 years here, I've never seen anything like it," Warchol said. "We've seen other forms of animal cruelty, burying something alive is a bit out of reach."
Piquard would have had the dog for 18 months after his former girlfriend could no longer keep him in his apartment.

Kaylee Belanger, the woman who found Chico buried alive, wrote on Facebook that Piquard had texted him Sunday around 11 am, indicating that the dog "had died last night". Bélanger said that just one day before, Piquard showed him his new kitten.
She claimed to have found Chico buried alive in the earth and under a rock.
"He screamed in pain, dirt in every part of him," wrote Bélanger. "He felt flat like a rock crepe weighing him in the hole."
The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital where he was euthanized, the police told the newspaper.
Piquard was reportedly charged with a charge of cruelty to animals and released on bail of $ 1,000.
