Mexican police are investigating a couple arrested for transporting body parts in a landau in connection with at least 10 killings.

During the hearing that followed his arrest, the man reportedly confessed to killing 20 women in a suburb of Mexico City.

The investigators found body parts in the couple's apartment and in another neighboring property. They were kept in buckets filled with cement and in a refrigerator.

Prosecutors say that the couple sold the body parts, but we do not know who.

Femicide – women's killings – are common in Mexico and often go unpunished, but the horrific details of the case provoked outrage and triggered street protests in Ecatepec, the poor suburb of the state of Mexico. where they happened.

"Baby of the victim sold"

Neighbors said that whenever they saw the couple, they pushed the pram into which the police had found the body pieces.

The police arrested them and searched them after the disappearance in September of a local woman, Nancy Huitron, aged 28, and her two-month-old baby, Valentina.

At the hearing, the accused, whose name is Juan Carlos, confessed to killing Ms. Huitron and identified two other victims: Arlet Olguín, 23, and Evelyn Rojas, 29 .

Impunity

Investigators said the women knew Juan Carlos and his partner Patricia for buying clothes and food.

According to the investigators, Patricia would have driven them into the property telling them that she had more goods available to them.

The police said that when he was arrested, Juan Carlos asked the police if he could shower and get dressed before being paraded in front of the media "because I'm not a dirty criminal. ".

The State of Mexico is the region where the number of missing women is the highest in the country. Between January and April this year, 395 people disappeared in the state of Mexico, including 207 women.

The disappearances are mainly concentrated in violent areas where gangs often have control and where the police are afraid to leave.
