A North Carolina soldier shot dead during a roadside check

It was a few hours of violence for officers from two states: one in North Carolina was killed in a roadside check and another in Tennessee was seriously injured while looking for a suspect in a building.

Private Kevin Conner was shot dead Wednesday around 12:15 in Columbus County when he stopped a van for speeding, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Conner was approaching the vehicle, which had parked on the side of the road, when the driver opened fire and hit the soldier.

Conner was rushed to the hospital, where he died later.

Meanwhile, in Tennessee, a Shelby County MP was shot in the right leg while he was looking for a suspect at Eden, at Watersedge Apartments in Memphis, around 3:30 am.

The ministry said in a tweet the deputy was taken to the One Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The sheriff's department later stated that his condition had improved and that he had been classified as non-critical.
