A North Carolina woman who claims to have almost lost her leg because of a serious skin infection contracted during a pedicure warns others of the dangers of callosite cutters
. Martinez from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, went for a pedicure in a "very clean" salon, she recalls on Facebook. The next day, however, she became ill, suffering from fever, chills, nausea, and vomiting. And his condition is quickly aggravated.

"I'm out of balance, my leg was huge, I'm out of strength," she wrote, adding that 39 An ambulance was called shortly after to take him to a local hospital.
The doctors later told Martinez that she was suffering from severe cellulitis, a bacterial infection that "can spread to the lymph nodes and to the bloodstream." According to the Mayo Clinic,
"Cellulite occurs when bacteria, most commonly streptococci and staphylococci, enter a crack or broken skin," says the university medical center.
Symptoms: pain, swelling, sensitivity spots and blisters, among other signs.
In Martinez's case, the doctors informed her that she probably developed cellulite after being cut slightly by a cutter – a tool that helps remove dead skin from heels and feet – which was used during her pedicure in the salon.
In North Carolina, callosite cutters are banned by the state's Board of Cosmetics, reported the WFAA agency. Martinez said that she did not know it until she was hospitalized for two weeks because of the infection.
Martinez, 35, added that she would take medication to treat leftover infections for the next three months. She will also need to wear a compression stocking on the affected leg to prevent future infection.

"I've gone through hell, pain, shock, all this, but I want to raise awareness," she writes, warning others to "say no" callosite cutters.
"Every day was a new chapter of what was going to happen to my leg," Martinez, whose Facebook post garnered 50,000 reactions and more than 150,000 shares, told WFAA
