A North Carolina woman was arrested on Tuesday after the authorities discovered she had been living for months with the decaying body of her 93-year-old mother because she was "curious" about the death stages, according to reports. .

Donna Sue Hudgins, 69, of Enfield, reported her mother's death at a funeral home, but said she did not know where the first responders had taken the body, the Raleigh News & Observer reported. But when the funeral home did not find Nellie May Hudgins' body either, they called the police.

Police Chief Tyree Davis wrote on Facebook that officers went to Hudgins' home to test for well-being and discovered that "Nellie May's badly decomposed body"

An investigation revealed that the body had been home for several months before Hudgins informed his family of their mother's death, Davis wrote.

"Whenever someone stopped, [Hudgins] would meet us at the door, let's say [Nellie May’s] asleep or something like that. "

"Whenever someone stopped, [Hudgins] would meet us at the door, let's say [Nellie May’s] asleep or something like that, "said Kenny Velasquez, separated from Nellie May's granddaughter, at WRAL-TV.

The investigators questioned Hudgins and learned that she had not reported death for months because she was "curious" to "see the stages of death," Davis wrote.

Although the neighbors said that they could smell, they rejected it as something else.

"I thought maybe it was a sewer or something," said neighbor Edna Burgess at the Raleigh news station.

Hudgins has been charged with concealing a death crime, reported the observer. She was held on a $ 5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on November 7.
