A paratrooper in Lodi, California, died after his parachute was not deployed properly during a jump made on Sunday.
The paratrooper, who has not yet been identified, has successfully completed more than 2,500 jumps over the years, according to NBC News affiliate, KCRA.
The jump was attempted at Lodi Parachute Center.
Ian Gregor, Communications Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration, said in an email to NBC News that the parachutist was using his own equipment during the jump.
Gregor said that even though the FAA would investigate the death, the department is generally limited to investigating whether the parachute was properly packed by the appropriate person.
The death of this woman is the latest in a series of deaths at the Lodi Parachute Center since the late 1990s, according to KCRA.
According to KCRA, between 1999 and 2017, 15 people died after jumping from planes that had taken off from the center.
The FBI searched the center earlier this year, but it is unclear what was being investigated.
Lodi Parachute Center did not immediately return a request for comment submitted by NBC News.
