Thousands of fans have signed a petition urging Maroon 5 to withdraw from the show announced at the half-time Super Bowl, whether they are actually engaged to play one.

Neither the NFL nor the rock band has publicly confirmed that they will play in the Atlanta Feb. 3 championship game – though agencies such as Variety and Billboard have quoted unnamed sources as saying the band would be making headlines. . But that did not stop a Change.org petition from begging leader Adam Levine and members of PJ Morton, Mickey Madden, James Valentine, Jesse Carmichael and Matt Flynn to withdraw.

More than 47,000 people have added their names to the petition "Maroon 5: Get Out of the Super Bowl Halftime Show," which says Maroon 5 is scheduled to cancel the protest for former NFL player Colin Kaepernick.

"Until the league changes its policy and supports the constitutional right of players to protest, no artist should agree to work with the NFL," wrote Vic Oyedeji, at the origin of the petition. "Join me in asking Maroon 5 to retire from the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show."

Kaepernick is the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who took a knee at the national anthem to protest social injustice and police brutality. He has not played in the NFL since 2016.

The petition goes on to say that the group has already collaborated with artists who support Kaepernick.

"Maroon 5 has been making music over the years with artists of all genres, including Rihanna, Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar – who have publicly supported Kaepernick in his decision to protest the violent racism in the United States." , says the petition. "Maroon 5 must do the same, the group has a chance to stand on the right side of the story, otherwise they will be remembered for choosing to side with the NFL rather than its players. "
