The police officer who shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland four years ago was hired by another police department in rural Ohio.

A grand jury refused in 2015 to indict both officers of Rice's death. Loehmann was fired from the police department in May 2017 after working on administrative duties pending an administrative review since the 2014 shooting.
Rice's shooting and lack of legal action against Loehmann has sparked outrage and national protests against the use of force by police and racial prejudice in the criminal justice system.
Rice's family lawyer Subodh Chandra condemned the hiring of Loehmann in a tweet. She said Rice's mother, Samaria Rice, felt that "Loehmann does not belong to any police force and should not be imposed on citizens anywhere."
