Part of an Amtrak train to New York City is separated from the rest of the train near Albany, the agency said, leaving passengers in the car stuck on the rails a few hours the night before Thanksgiving.
"I turned around and looked at it and the rest of the train was gone," passenger Chuck Reeves told NY1 during a phone interview.
Amtrak officials said that two of the 68 Adirondack train cars leaving from Montreal to the Penn Station in Manhattan had been separated due to a "mechanical problem" shortly before 7:25 p.m.. about 10 minutes south of Albany-Rensselaer station.
Amtrak stated that no injuries had been reported to the 287 passengers or crew members, and that the passengers had been transferred to a new train so that they could continue their journey shortly before 22 hours.
Amtrak said he was investigating the reasons for the separation of cars.

Reeves said he heard a noise and felt an "electric shock" near Albany before turning around to see that the rest of the train had separated.

According to Amtrak, the train was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station by 20:50.
