One of the most beloved teen movies of all time receives an update of the 21st century. A No idea remake is officially underway, Deadline reported on Thursday, because the next generation needs to know who is Cher Horowitz.
There is not a ton of information about the film for now, but there are some big names attached to the backstage side. Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the screenplay for Girls travel, will produce the film. And Marquita Robinson, who worked as GLOWhistory editor and as a writer for New girl, write the script for the No idea redo, according to Deadline.
Of course, there is no news on the cast at the moment, considering the fact that the film has not been written yet. Nevertheless, fans probably already imagine the possibilities of an updated version of the classic film. How will iPhones be in Cher's dream closet? What is the 2018 version of the iconic yellow plaid suit? And, perhaps more importantly, who could replace Paul Rudd as Cher's love interest?
There is also the question of whether members of the original cast would come back for the No idea remake. Unfortunately, Brittany Murphy died in 2009, but Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash and even Rudd could make cameos in the new movie.
For fans of the original movie, however, the emotions are shared. Of course, some kids from the 90s are not happy that the beloved movie is redone.
Yet some fans were, like No idea the characters would say, totally on the remake. (Will the new movie always feature iconic slogans?) Are the kids in the '90s who inevitably see the remake forced to learn whatever generic Z generation slogans are popular now?
And, of course, many people have joked about the fact that Rudd can play in the new movie as a student, just like in the original movie, as it is notorious for not getting old.
As some fans have pointed out, the 1995 film was inspired by Jane Austen EmmaSo it's already a "remake". Nevertheless, it is a little strange to re-adapt the film of the 90s and not just create a new film that is vaguely related to the book. Part of the charm of Clueless is that it was made so distinctly in the 90s; it will be interesting to see what changes Oliver and Robinson make to the updated version.
Always like Deadline points out that fans who can not get enough of Cher Horowitz are really lucky. In addition to the upcoming remake, there is also an upcoming off-Broadway No idea musical starring Dove Cameron, and its opening in December. So, if you do not mind seeing actors other than Silverstone instead of Cher, the time has come to be a connoisseur of pop culture.
Once more details on the No idea remake are revealed, some skeptical fans might come to the news. And for fans who want to keep the original, it will still be there, in all the glory of its '90s, for the fans' enjoyment.
