CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a league where kickers are cut every week because they missed their goals, the Giants continue to end up on the wrong side of the longest-running shootings in the history of the NFL .
This happened twice – at weeks 3 and 4 – in 2017, and it happened Sunday at week 5 of 2018.
Already seen again.
The comparison is so inevitable that NJ Advance Media could not even suggest it to Landon Collins security – "You lost a game like this, very similar to this one …" – before it closed.
"I'm not talking about last year," Collins interjected, clearly sharing the same comparative brainwashing length.
Who can blame Collins for not wanting to relive one of his worst nightmares more than he should in the field?
The 2017 Giants imploded after these consecutive defeats – against the Eagles and Buccaneers – dropped to 0-4. This time they are 1-4.
As they face the same proposal, let's compare Sunday's defeat to the Panthers to the loss to the Eagles last year and listen to some players' testimony on how the Gloves are rehearsing Groundhog Day.
The incredible goal on the field
2018 Graham Gano scored a goal of 63 yards – making him one of five tied punters for the second-longest in the history of the NFL – to bring the Panthers to a 33-31 victory. There was one second left on the clock.
The Giants have expressed some interest in signing Gano – and almost all the former Panther – in the off season before his new signing as a free agent. It was his 36th consecutive win at home.
2017: Jake Ellliott set an NFL rookie record with a 61-yard field goal at the end of the second game of his NFL career. He was only part of the lineup because the Eagles kicker was out for the season with an injury in the first week. He had missed 52 yards earlier in the game and 30 yards the week before.

The crazy return
2018 The Giants looked dead after Manning's second interception in the second half, with the team leading 27-16 in the fourth quarter. But Manning made two touchdown passes and two-point conversion as the Giants took the lead 31-30 to 68 seconds from the end.
An interception of Janoris Jenkins and a stop in the red zone with a bag of Connor Barwin helped the cause.
