MOSCOW – A Russian crew member of the International Space Station has recorded a video message to allay concerns about an air leak on the orbiting outpost.
In the video posted on his social networking page on Monday, Sergei Prokopyev explained how the crew located and sealed the tiny hole that created a slight loss of pressure.
Speaking of the Russian vessel Soyuz moored at the station, where the leak was spotted, Prokopyev said he was quickly corrected, adding with a smile "we do not try to cover it with our fingers".
Roscosmos director Dmitry Rogozin said the hole could have been drilled during manufacture or in orbit. He did not say whether he suspected the current crew of three Americans, two Russians and one German aboard the station.
Prokopyev said that the crew was in a good mood.
"As you can see, everything is going well and we live together in peace," he said. "Our joint international expedition works in a friendly environment."
The state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported on Monday that a government commission to investigate the mysterious borehole had failed to determine the cause.
