A Russian opposition leader arrested again after his release

Police arrested Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was released from prison early Monday morning and charged him with breaking the law during protests against President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Navalny, 42, faces up to 20 days' imprisonment under another law for "violations during a demonstration leading to a person's health," said his spokesman.

He had just completed a 30-day sentence following a protest he had organized in January to call for a boycott of the presidential election after he had not been allowed to vote against Mr Putin.

Mr Navalny said that he thought the arrest was an attempt to keep him off the street during new protests this month against Mr Putin's unpopular decision to rise to the age of retirement.

The protests that took place earlier this month were the worst election day for the Kremlin, forcing two Putin governor candidates to lose Sunday and two others to suffer defeat.

Leonid Volkov, who led Navalny's presidential campaign, said the Kremlin wanted to "let out his anger on someone for all the defeats and flops of recent weeks".
