Bradley Cooper, the director, producer, writer and lead actor of the upcoming "A Star Is Born" remake, spoke for the first time about sexual harassment allegations against sole producer Jon Peters. Peters, who produced the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand, has been accused by many women of harassment in cases ranging from 1996 to 2008.

Cooper said that although he needed Peters's permission to re-make the film, he was not aware of the allegations against him.

"Fortunately, Jon was not there [on set]. And if I had known all these things, I would have done it differently, "Cooper told NPR. "I wanted to make the film, I knew I had to get his consent, otherwise there is no movie. But I should have checked. I guess that's the thing.

The actor went on to say that he had created a safe environment on the set and that Peters was involved because of a "grandfather clause" of the film.

Bill Gerber, another producer on "A Star Is Born," said Peters had made a significant contribution to the making of the film. "There has been a lot of complicated stuff on 'A Star Is Born'," he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017. "And Jon could not have been more helpful in doing anything."

Peters gets the second production credit in Warner's official press material for the film after Gerber and before Cooper, Todd Phillips and Lynette Howell Taylor. The film is identified as "Jon Peters / Bill Gerber / Joint Effort Production".

A spokesman for Producers Guild of America revealed that Peters is not part of the certified production team for the new movie "A Star Is Born" and that he will probably not be eligible for an Academy Award if he uses the PGA determination as recommendation. The development came after Jezebel's report on cases of sexual harassment against Peters. Warner Bros. said in a statement on Tuesday that he would still name Peters as a producer to "honor the contractual obligation to make this film". Warner Bros will release the Cooper-Lady Gaga drama on October 5th.

At least five charges of sexual assault have been laid against Peters, who also has producer credits for "Caddyshack", "The Color Purple", "Batman" and "Superman Returns" in 2006.
