A 21-year-old man was arrested on Saturday following the shooting of a good Samaritan who had stopped to assist a motorist apparently stranded on Highway 15, San Police said Sunday. Diego.
Brandon Acuna was arrested for first-degree murder and burglary, said Lt. Anthony Dupree of the San Diego Police. He declined to give further details except to say that others might have been involved in the shooting.
Curtis Adams, 21, an active member of the Navy, was driving with his girlfriend south on the highway when they saw a man standing next to a white vehicle on the shoulder near Interstate 5 heading north to Logan Heights, about 2 hours before. : 8 pm, said Dupree.
The couple stopped to help and Adams was shot dead while he was getting out of his vehicle, Dupree said.
The shooter got back into his vehicle and escaped to the south.
Shortly after, the California Highway Patrol warned that a similar vehicle had been stopped on Interstate 5 heading north, near 32nd Street. A man was also seen driving away from the vehicle.
Police found the man on Newton Street, later identified as Acuna, and he was arrested, police said.
Investigators also believe that "Acuna was involved in an attempted burglary in Boundary Street, in the community of Mt. I hope about 10 minutes before the fatal shot," police said.
The detectives work to determine if another person has been involved in the robbery attempt.
