A teenager visiting Yosemite National Park from Jerusalem fell on Tuesday more than 800 feet from a massive cliff as he attempted to take a selfie, reports said.
Tomer Frankfurter, 18, allegedly attempted to take a selfie near the park's famous Nevada Fall when he lost his balance and fell to about 820 feet at his death, said the boy's mother at Times of Israel. Frankfurter was on a two-month trip to the United States, his mother told an Israeli news outlet, according to the newspaper. Time.

Neither the park officials nor the Mariposa County Coroner's Office responded to a request for comment from PEOPLE. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also not responded to a request for comment.
The valley had just reopened on August 14 after being closed for weeks due to a fire Los Angeles Times.
