A 16-year-old boy died of a bullet in the head while he was playing basketball on a Brooklyn playground just past school exit on Friday.

It is believed that the teenager was an innocent bystander when he was shot on the basketball court behind P. 396 in Brownsville, minutes after school exit, according to police.

The teenager, identified as Timothy Oyebola of Queens, was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

James Moultre of the Brownsville Community Justice Center said that he knew Oyebola: "He is a very powerful young man," he said.

"He was a very good boy," added NYPD chief Michael Kemper. "It's a very unfortunate act."

Two men were seen fleeing the Chester Street scene after shooting about 150 feet. Police have stated that it is possible that one of the other three teenagers playing basketball is the target, but they are still trying to find a motive.

"It's sad, it's devastating," said Prince Mapp, of Brownsville. "Living in a neighborhood where kids can not even come to the park – there's a church here, pedestrians just right there, shops in the area – it's terrible."

Police were still investigating Friday night, interviewing witnesses and collecting surveillance videos.
