PROVIDENCE, R.I (WPRI) – A teenager died after being shot and wounded outside a Providence school on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The shooting took place just before 2 pm near the Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA) on Fricker Street. Police said that they had a person in detention, but it is not known for the moment if this person is the alleged gunman.
Police also responded to a second shootout within one kilometer of Sprague Street, which they said could be linked. The victim was a young man who was alone when the police found him, according to police. He is now taken to the Hasbro Children's Hospital with injuries that do not put his life in danger.
A spokesman for the school department said that the PCTA and the classical high school were in session when the filming took place while the central high school had already been fired, although some students and teachers are still in the building. The three schools were placed in a modified lockdown, which means that people could move inside the buildings but not leave. They were finally "strategically released for dismissal" with the help of the police, the spokesman said.
Governor Gina Raimondo responded to the shooting scene with the city police.

Police dogs are driven around the technical and career center. A former student told me that the school had been fired shortly after 2 am, but Central should be sent back shortly.
