A tornado hit Norton during Tuesday's storms.

A tornado struck Norton, Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon, the National Meteorological Service announced. Forecasters had said earlier that a twister had also torn one or even two cities of Rhode Island around the same time.

"The national meteorological service. . . confirmed that a tornado has been shot down in Norton MA yesterday. Additional investigations are underway to determine the details of this tornado, "forecasters said.

The weather service said earlier that a tornado that tore Lincoln, R.I., Tuesday afternoon could have caused winds of 90 to 100 miles at the time, making the EF1 tornado.

Meteorologist meteorological services, Joe Dellicarpini, said at a press conference Wednesday morning in the city: "We first arrived at the area most affected by the damage" and said that the team would conduct a damage study in North Providence, RI. "

NWS meteorologists also viewed information about a seabass (or tornado over water) in Sandwich, Massachusetts, he said.

He stated that the activity of the tornado was "really unusual" for the time of year but "not unknown." Most tornadoes are observed in the region in July and August.

He added that forecasters knew that there would be storms on Tuesday, but that the tornadoes were "a bit unexpected". He added that there was "a little more people yesterday" in the atmosphere that the forecasters did not realize.

The tornadoes were caused by strong thunderstorms that fell in the area on Tuesday afternoon, dropping rain, throwing hail and causing high winds that toppled trees and wires.

In Lincoln, "everyone was panicking in the streets," said the fire chief after the tornado tore apart a neighborhood.
