The rankings of college football and basketball are predictable in one way. If you are ranked # 1 and you lose, almost always, you go down.

Why is it practically automatic? The ranking of the teams should not be limited to a simple defeat. Every week should be a fresh look at a team's resume and current position.

That brings us to the Los Angeles Rams. They were the No. 1 team on the run in the NFL before Sunday. Then they lost to the New Orleans Saints, a game that most NFL teams would now lose as the Saints reached their cruising speed. There is nothing wrong with this loss (although this has clear implications in the playoffs).

Do the Rams always have an argument as the best football team? Should we not consider the fact that the Saints have won and look like a Super Bowl competitor for over a month? And what about the Kansas City Chiefs, whose only loss is a field placement in New England?

29. Arizona Cardinals (2-6, LW: 29)

David Johnson has had more than 20 hits in a game just once this season. I understand that the Cardinals can not stand the orders and that the game scripts have been bad, but the first game plan meeting every week for the offensive coaches should start with how they will get Johnson over 20 hits.

28. San Francisco 49ers (2-7, LW: 30)

I imagine that Nick Mullens had the game of a lifetime against the Raiders' defense, which is horrible and that also gave the impression of abandoning him. But the next two games of the 49ers are against the Giants and the Buccaneers, and none of these teams are afraid of the defense. If Mullens gets another shot – and it would be a shock if he did not – he could continue this fun story for a while.

5. Los Angeles Chargers (6-2, LW: 5)
