The mayor of North Ogden, Utah, was killed Saturday in Afghanistan as a member of the Utah National Guard.

Brent Taylor was killed on Saturday as part of an "attack attack" in Kabul, according to a statement from the Utah National Guard at Fox 13 Salt Lake City, while the terrorist-in-charge was immediately killed by Afghan forces.

"This information also indicates that the attacker was immediately killed by other Afghan forces," the statement said. "The incident is under investigation."

The attacker allegedly posed as a member of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces, hoping that US authorities will be able to tackle the terrorist groups fighting in the region in the coming years.

Taylor had temporarily left the North Ogden Mayor's position during his deployment, which began in January of this year. The Fox affiliate reported that Taylor had been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan on several occasions in the past.

"Things are going very well and I love the dedicated American and Afghan soldiers I serve with every day," Taylor wrote in a report about his deployment earlier this year.

Taylor was killed just two weeks later by another US serviceman, Brig. General Jeffrey Smiley was wounded in an "insider attack attack" in Afghanistan.

According to CNN, two Afghan leaders were also killed in the attack, whose Taliban claimed responsibility.
