A wine distillery in Italy has thoroughly cleaned up after one of its fermentation tanks dumped more than 8,000 prosecco last week. In a 6-second viral video uploaded to Facebook last week, a river of wine was flooding the vineyard.
Enoteca Zanardo Giussano of Conegliano, Veneto, aired on Facebook a recording of the incident of 25 September. There is a trolley that stands under the tank and spills a huge amount of wine, without any sign of stopping. Depending on the position, the overflow was due to excessive filling of the silos.
The video garnered more than a million views on Facebook and wine lovers around the world commented on the loss, suggesting traveling and helping – with glasses or straws.
"This silos of prosecco expolded [sic]. And his prosecco spilled everywhere. Will we go there as soon as possible? ", Writes a fan of sparkling wine.
"We have to pack the rubber dings and the long straws and find this place," said another.
"I was standing underneath with my mouth open and a bucket to catch him and take him home," said one speaker.
The demand for prosecco is high in the United States, Great Britain and Germany, where exports of Italian sparkling wine are the largest, reports Forbes. Prosecco accounts for 20% of sparkling wine sales in the United States and is expected to reach 50 million bottles by 2020.
