A woman breaks the femur after the crash of a scooter in the city center

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A woman broke her femur after driving a motorized scooter and lost control of her downtown San Diego Friday.

The 65-year-old woman was driving a Bird scooter just before 2 pm in the Embarcadero area, according to the San Diego Police. Her family also rode scooters with her.

For some reason, the police said that the woman had lost control of the scooter and had overturned. She was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for a broken femur.

No one else was hurt.

This week, Mayor Kevin Faulconer proposed new regulations for motorized scooters, while the number of injuries in San Diego continues to grow.

According to the rules proposed by the mayor, the riders would be required to release any responsibility of the city in case of injury.

Since June 2018, reports from the Scripps Mercy Hospital report about thirty injuries requiring hospitalization because of scooters, according to Dr. Vishal Bansal, head of the hospital trauma department.
