VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) – A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured Saturday night after a small plastic bottle exploded while she was trying to throw it away.
40 hours in the Fort Vancouver Way area and East 26th Street.
But Renee Noel and Gloria Rubio, two people who live nearby, responded in front of the police.
Gloria said that she saw the girl picking up the bottle. Seconds later, she saw an explosion. Renee said it sounded like a bomb exploded. Renee got 9-1-1 on the phone while Gloria rushed to the girls' side.
"I crossed her street," says Gloria. "It was then that I saw the plastic in her hands, she was dripping blood all over."
"She was in distress, she was really, really bad, I was just trying to calm her down."
The teenager – identified by her mother, Ashli Fortner, as Kristienna – was walking his dog when someone in a green SUV, traveling on 26th Street, threw a plastic bottle on the ground, then left, the girl went to get the bottle and thrown it, but it exploded in her hands before she could send plastic shards. in his arm and his left hand.
"She saw a clear liquid with white smoke in it," Ashli said.
Ashli said that a neighbor had seen him and called 9-1-1. The paramedics then called him.
A criminal fire investigator arrived at the scene and processed the evidence. Video images were also given to the police.
Ashli said that his daughter would be fine, but it could have been a lot worse. She is currently at home in Longview, taking antibiotics and recovering.
"Karma always happens," she said.
