It helps to have friends in high places.
Like, say, the All-Star team of the American League.
Faith Kuhn, a 12-year-old baseball fan from Albuquerque, Missouri, suffers from spina bifida and scoliosis.
While Bregman is no stranger – he is a member of the All-Star 2018 team, a member of the reigning World Series champions and one of the brightest stars in the game – Faith reserves his greatest admiration for Kris Bryant Cubs.
"He's cute," Faith told the Albuquerque newspaper. "And he's good at baseball."
In January, Bregman released a video of Faith taking cuts in a kicking cage at the Albuquerque Baseball Academy. Bregman scored Bryant in the video and said that Faith would like to meet the Cubs drummer if it could be arranged.
"Faith wanted me to show you his baseball swing and you know you're his favorite player," Bregman wrote.
This could be arranged and it was. Bryant saw the video and set the wheels in motion.
"They thought about training in spring training," said Chad Kuhn, Faith's father and high school baseball coach, "but we have never been to Chicago.
Bryant asked the Kuhns to stay at a nearby hotel and gave them tickets for Monday's match against the Pirates. Bryant met the family for a tour of the pavilion and even threw stick training lobes at Faith, a left-handed batter whose best friend turned out to be the friend of the Bregman family.
"How fortunate for Faith to meet the challenges she faced," said Chad Kuhn at the Albuquerque Journal. "I'm just amazed at how beneficial baseball has been in our lives."
