MIDDLEBURY, Vermont –

A 10-year-old girl died of bacterial meningitis on Wednesday.

WSBT reports that the family of Abbigayle Dipietro did not know what was meningitis and that she was surprised to have killed her so quickly.

Her mother said that she had complained of an ear infection last weekend, which quickly turned into vomiting and a crisis on Monday. On Wednesday, she fell into a coma and died.

Her parents hope that no other family should suffer this and ask people to look for symptoms such as headaches, fever, vomiting, ear infections and stiff neck.

A Facebook fundraiser was launched to cover the family's medical expenses, already raising more than $ 12,000.

The Abby memorial will take place on February 22nd.
