It's still too early to know which Thunder team is real. The defensive wheel that has trouble marking? Or the heatwave offense more than happy to exchange buckets? A happy middle of the two?
OKC can only hope for two ingredients of Friday's victory: the efficiency of Russell Westbrook (10 for 16 FG, 23 points, 12 assists, a turnover) and Jerami Grant's production at Power Forward (22 points) . These two factors were missing all too often last season for a Thunder team with fighting ambitions. Add them, and this goal could be all the easier to reach.
Wizards wallowing
During the first nine minutes of Friday's game, it seemed like Dwight Howard was the cure. He was diving. John Wall was singing. The magicians were winning.
This ended up being a cruel tease for local fans, who finally booed their team now composed of 1 to 7 while they were surpassed by 44-20 in the second quarter. Howard's debut was an unhealthy mix of 20 points and only three rebounds. Wall spat seven convulsions. The Wizards fired just 9-for-30 over a distance of 3 points.
Washington faces the same questions as the Thunder one week ago. What's wrong? Is it too early to panic? What role does Scott Brooks play in all this?
These issues, in addition to being tied for the last time in an East without LeBron, are not what a team with two stars should face less than a month into the season.

Speaking of past explosions, Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points in Houston's well-deserved 119-11 win over Brooklyn. The star player 10 times has lost more than 20 goals in three of the last four games, which is his second loss in 2018 (January 15-20).
