CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – If you plan to travel on Sunday, you may want to reconsider your decision because more than half a foot of snow is expected in southern Iowa.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for parts of south and southeast Iowa. It comes into effect Sunday morning and continues until midnight.
"This storm system will have an impact on Sunday's all day trips," said First Alert Storm Team meteorologist Justin Gehrts. "From Friday night, it seems that the storm is moving in our region Sunday and disappears Sunday night."
More snow amounts are expected in southern Iowa, depending on the current course of the storm. It could drop more than six inches of snow in areas south of Interstate 80, with a 4 to 6 inch shade between Highways 30 and 20. Areas to the north will see smaller amounts. Even in places where the amounts of snow are low, there will be blowing snow.
"The forecast of snowfall is likely to change before the storm reaches the Midwest," added Gehrts. "Even a 20-mile shift in the path of the storm can mean a big difference in the amount of snow, and things will become clearer as the storm gets closer."
After Sunday's snow, precipitation is less frequent than normal next week with below-normal temperatures.
