Week 7 of the college football season was defined by surprises and near misses. So what week 8 has in store for a reminder? The answer: a lot.
It all starts at noon with a top 25 between Michigan and Michigan State. The Wolverines have their highest rank in the polls and are at the door to be part of the top four teams. However, the Spartans at East Lansing are on their way. There will also be key clashes later in the day between NC State and Clemson, and the state of Mississippi and LSU. Then, at night, the Pac-12 takes over with a game in the top 25 featuring Oregon and Washington State before ending the evening with USC-Utah. Both games have major divisional implications.
Here are all the big games to watch on a busy Saturday.
All times is
The biggest games
# 6 Michigan to # 24 Michigan State, FOX, Stream to FuboTV (Free Trial), Noon: Has Michigan really happened? Although the Wolverines have been hailed as the big winners of Wisconsin, they must now take the road to win a big win against the Spartans. Michigan is 1-1 on the road this year and averages away from Ann Arbor under Jim Harbaugh. In addition, Sparty has won eight of the last ten games in this series. This game, as much as the win in Wisconsin, will tell us a lot about the Wolverines.
No. 16 NC to No. 3 Clemson, ESPN, 3:30 pm: Clemson is a big home favorite (-16.5), but NC State has played the Tigers in recent years. The Wolfpack also presents the best passing attack of the ACC and one of the best defenses of the conference. NC State is still a relatively unknown undefeated team, but if it wins on the road, we may need to rethink who could win the ACC championship in December. It's a good game to measure the Wolfpack.
No. 22 Mississippi State at 5 US LSU, ESPN, 7pm: The LSU 36-16 win over Georgia in Week 7 was his most emphatic win of the season. And yet, the Tigers are less than a complete touchdown favorite (-6.5) at home against the state of Mississippi. So, of course, there is a possibility of disappointment here. Victory, however, and LSU would enter his home match of Nov. 3 against Alabama on a throw. It would be a top-five match at Death Valley.
No. 12 Oregon at No. 25 Washington State, FOX, streaming on FuboTV (Free Trial), at 7:30 pm: There are some great stories for this primetime game of Pac-12 North. Oregon has just won a huge win in overtime against Washington. The Ducks should probably be undefeated and a win would certainly propel them into the top 10. Washington State will for the first time be a "College GameDay" host site. There are also some interesting vibrations in Vegas. The Cougars were a half-point favorite, but the line has since moved to a placement.
Other great games
Oklahoma No. 9 at the TCU, ABC, at noon: This is the Sooners' first match after the sacking of defensive coordinator, Mike Stoops. Has the defense resisted the past week? And TCU must stop bleeding after losing three of its last four games. Oklahoma is only a favorite of 7.5 points.
No. 1 Alabama in Tennessee, CBS, stream on FuboTV (Free Trial), 3:30 pm: The odds that it is a game are slim (the Tide count 28.5 points, which is normal), but the plot is not lacking. The first year coach of Vols, Jeremy Pruitt, is from Alabama. Although Tennessee is not yet a good team, it plays better each week. And, of course, there is "Tua's Knee Watch 2018" to watch.
# 2 Ohio State at Purdue, 7:30 pm, ABC: Giving players Buckeyes and Boilermakers the place of Saturday night on ABC is interesting, probably because of potential fireworks. The current over / under is at 68.5 and the top is powerful tempting. Ohio State is still favorite with 12.5 points, but the defense has sometimes been suspect. Purdue is able to take advantage.
USC in Utah, Pac-12 networks, stream on FuboTV (Try for free), 8pm: This could be the game that will eventually decide the Pac-12 South race. We are only three weeks away from October, but the Utes have caught fire over the last two weekends with 41 points per game. Although USC is on a three-game winning streak, these three games have been rich in events. Who knows how this one will go.
Keep an eye on …
- N ° 20 Cincinnati at the Temple, ESPNU, noon
- No. 18 Penn State in Indiana, ABC, 3:30 pm
- Houston at Navy, CBS Sports Network, at 3:30 pm
- Minnesota Nebraska, Big Ten Network, 3:30 pm
- Colorado at 15 Washington, FOX, 3:30 pm
- Vanderbilt at No. 14 Kentucky, SEC Network, 7:30 pm
