Before becoming a Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker jumped into a Starfighter X-Wing and blew up a Death Star. Darth Vader had his own TIE rad Fighter, and the man formerly known as Anakin Skywalker was one of the best pilots in the galaxy. Then there is Poe Dameron, Resistance's top gun resident.

Talented pilots and their spaceships have always been a common thread in the Star Wars galaxy. And sorry, Jedi lovers, these space aces occupy a central place in the new Disney Channel animation. The series "Star Wars Resistance" (presented October 7, 10 EDT / PDT), which finds its influences in "Top Gun", "The Right Stuff" and the military war in real life.

Kazuda Xiono (voiced by Christopher Sean) is a young hunter recruited by Poe (Oscar Isaac) for a major Resistance mission as part of the anime-style show: an aircraft refueling station on an aquatic planet, and spying on the evil shenanigans first order. Kaz quickly finds a competitive community with other people who need speed and who engage in life or death races for fame and fortune.

The creator of "Resistance", Dave Filoni, who previously ran "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels", has personal connections to the old flyboy era: his grandfather and uncle flew private planes and his uncle restored II the warbirds and took them – and Filoni when he was a kid – to events like the annual Oshkosh, Wisconsin air show.

"When you see movies like" The Right Stuff ", it really connects you because you know people like you in life, pilots who have a truly unique sense of trust," Filoni explains alongside Athena Portillo and Justin. Ridge and Brandon Auman.

Kaz is a kid whose bravado is causing him trouble. He's driving the Fireball, designed as a cross between an X-wing and a F4U Corsair of the Second World War, but he has not really gone around the world to test his skills. "He is a fish out of the water in this extreme Colossus environment where people are trying to figure out what their life is now in the years that followed the fall of the Empire," says Filoni.

The best players are in the Aces, a group of five drivers with their own outfits and droids that protect the Colossus and face all the challengers in tough races. Hype Fazon (Donald Faison) is a Rodian showcoeur, Griff Halloran (Stephen Stanton) is a former TIE pilot, Freya Fenris (Mary Elizabeth McGlynn) is a ferocious woman doing business, and Bo Keevil is the mysterious daredevil and silent group.

Kaz befriends Torra Doza (Myrna Velasco), a girl who wears colorful clothes and a positive attitude. "It's kind of fun and light," Filoni says. "It does not mean that she can not be a fantastic driver as well."

Major Vonreg (Lex Lang), a first-rate TIE pilot whose crimson armor and spaceship are inspired by the old school, is a guy who is certainly not on the side of the heroes.

"Every time we have a bad driver, we talk about it, well, is it our Red Baron?" Filoni said. "And finally, it's like making it all red. This seems to correspond to the First Order because they seem to really like it as a color.

"If the good guys have ace, the bad guys need it too."
