Adam Driver will host the premiere of season 44 "Saturday Night Live," NBC announced Monday.

The actor "Star Wars" and "BlacKkKlansman" will be joined by the musical guest Kanye West. This will be the second time the pilot will host the long series of sketches as it will be West's seventh appearance since 2005.

The announcement comes as Michael Che and Colin Jost of "SNL" prepare to host this year's Emmy Awards. The "Weekend Update" couple, along with Kent Sublette, also recently bought out their contracts to return as co-writers for season 44.

"SNL" received 21 Emmy nominations this year, with the show having already won seven awards at Creative Arts Emmys last weekend. One of those victories was won by Tiffany Haddish, who won the award after hosting the show in November. Dave Chappelle won the same prize a year ago for hosting the first post-election episode in 2016.

The first season of season 44 will air on NBC on September 29th at 11:30 pm. ET / PT.

"SNL" has seen a sharp rise in ratings over the past two seasons, thanks in large part to the regular parody of the Trump White House. Season 43 recorded an average of 9.4 million viewers per episode of Nielsen Live + 7 ratings, making it the most watched season since 1995. Season 41 averaged 11 million.
