AdelespinkPhoto: adelesnashville.comOctober is the month when many NFL players wear pink shoes and gloves to draw attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a move I think we can all support. (Unless you're a true fashionista.) At a more local level, people from Adele's Nashville plan their own efforts to become pink for October with a month of events to draw attention to breast cancer, including special items added to the menu, with some products reserved for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

The Adele team has personal connections to the fight against breast cancer, with many employees personally witnessing the effects of the disease in their families. By going further than just raising awareness, the culinary team consulted experts at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center to create a menu of dishes prepared with ingredients considered to have anti-cancer properties. Customers can expect dishes with ingredients like olives, cod and yogurt, demonstrating that healthy foods can also be delicious.

At the end of the month, some of the special menu recipes will be donated directly to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Customers will also be able to contribute to fundraising if they are interested. The program will be launched with a brunch this Sunday, September 30, where special items will be launched and the building will be lit in pink to commemorate the coup de send.

"We are very grateful to Adele not only for her support of the cancer center, but also for her awareness of the role of evidence-based nutrition in reducing cancer risk," says Jennifer Pietenpol, Executive Vice President, Cancer Therapeutics. research at the Vanderbilt University Center and director of Vanderbilt-Ingram. "We can not control the genes we inherited, but we can control lifestyle choices that can help reduce our risk of cancer."
