GLENDALE, Arizona – In his first game with the Washington Redskins, running back Adrian Peterson set new career goals.
Peterson scored his 100th career game, placing him in seventh place on the career list with Shaun Alexander and Marshall Faulk. He gave Washington a 14-0 lead en route to a 21-0 lead at halftime.
Earlier in the first half, Peterson also passed Jim Brown for 10th place on the career roster. Peterson entered the match needing 37 yards to beat Brown and picked him up before the end of the first quarter.
Peterson signed with Washington before the third pre-season game and quickly won the starting position. The big question for Peterson will be what he will be able to do in 16 games, but the fast return has been strong for Washington.
In the first period, Peterson rushed 14 times for 53 yards and won 18 more on a pass to the screen. He showed that he could still run with power and use his speed effectively, as he had done during the race where he had overtaken Brown. On this game, he took a throw to the left and beat the defender on the outside.
Peterson now has 12,329 rushing yards. Tony Dorsett is next on the all-time list with 12,739 yards.
