Adventurer Report Card: Attack Notes, Defeat Crows Defeat

BALTIMORE – There were not many tragedies in Sunday's 34-17 loss to the Ravens. The Raiders did not have Derek Carr and Jon Gruden shouting at each other. There have been no controversial calls or recordings.

It was just a routine beat beaten by a better team.

Ho-hum.

The Ravens played football at school and men's football and led the Raiders to victory. Money and black were not bad, but they could not compete because of a glaring disparity in talent, even against a team of nearly 500 Ravens.

The effort was there. The execution, however, has not been.

Rushing Offense

Doug Martin ran well at first, but the ground game was largely eliminated after the Raiders lost. He had 51 yards in 11 races, but the other riders would not have been able to gain much speed with limited work.

Gruden just could not get into running as he did last week in Arizona after failing several times.

Passage of the offense

The airstrike was out of sync most of the day and it's not quite Carr's fault. His protection against the passes was mediocre, especially in the last straight, and allowed three sacks in a row. The receivers lost several passes and did not have much speed to keep the Ravens high school honest.

Carr was not as accurate as usual here, especially when the Raiders had to make their comeback.

Rushed defense

It was as bad as possible. The Raiders allowed 242 yards on 43 runs, a high in the season, unable to stop or even slow down offensive midfielder Gus Edwards or quarterback Lamar Jackson in the second half.

After the match, Gruden said that if you can not stop the inner race, "you have no chance of stopping something else". He is right. It was the genesis of a really awful day at the office for players who knew what was going to happen and still could not stop the Ravens' ground game.

Defense Pass

Jackson had a rating of 58.4, with only 178 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The second of the Raiders had two choices for the second week in a row, including one from Marcus Gilchrist in the end zone. Reggie Nelson had one in Ravens territory.

The defensive backs of Oakland are playing better in recent weeks, even though they are still far from perfect. They must continue to reduce major errors. Do not allow big games like the Mark Andrews case would be a good start.

Special Teams

The punt game is awful. No word for that. Johnny Townsend had several disappointing efforts and averaged only 31.5 yards per punt.

The punt cover team allowed a 70-yard return for a touchdown that sent Gruden away. Although she has recruited free agents specifically to help special teams, this unit is not performing well enough.

Kicker Daniel Carlson was a bright spot, scoring his sixth consecutive goal, this one from 42 yards.

The Raiders were poor. Clear and simple. They struggled to stop the run, and everything eventually collapsed, ensuring their 13th season of defeats over the past 16 years, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs. Finding the next victory could take some time.
