JERUSALEM (AP) – The office of an important Israeli minister has announced that he will visit Oman next week, a few days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the Gulf State.

Arye Shalicar, advisor to the Minister of Transport, Yisrael Katz, announced Sunday that Katz would participate in an international conference on transport. He added that Katz, also a minister of Israeli intelligence, will share his proposal to build a rail link between Israel and the Arab Gulf countries.

Israel and Oman confirmed Netanyahu's visit to Oman on Friday, the first such visit by an Israeli leader in 22 years. Israel and Oman do not have formal diplomatic relations.

Netanyahu often boasts of strengthening ties behind the scenes with Arab countries. Another sign of these links, the Israeli Minister of Sports is in the United Arab Emirates to participate in an international competition of judo.
