Several people were shot dead Thursday in an incident on Midland Avenue in Syracuse, including a child, according to a New York media outlet.

According to preliminary reports, seven people were shot in Syracuse, but on Friday morning, Syracuse.com reported that five people had been injured. One of them, according to the Syracuse media site, was an 8-year-old girl.

The shooting occurred in a house where a memorial service was being organized for a man who died of cancer, and Syracuse.com reported that it was not the first time that violence marked the House:

According to witnesses and family members, the home of Rashaad Walker Jr.'s family was the home of the shooting, 1315-17 Midland Avenue.

Walker, 20 months old, was fatally shot in the afternoon of November 28, 2010 in the 300 block of Coolidge Avenue.

The baby was sitting in a car seat in a parked van when Saquan Evans, a prominent member of the Bricktown gang, opened fire on the vehicle, according to what the authorities claimed was an attempt to kill his father, a reputed gang 110 member.
