Aircraft Crash On Jersey Shore Beach, Officials Say (UPDATED)

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash of a small aircraft on a Jersey Shore beach on Saturday afternoon, according to fire officials. The pilot is in critical condition.

The crash happened at 12:36 p.m. when firefighters were dispatched to the area behind the Wildwood Convention Center on a report of a single-occupant aircraft crash, according to the town’s fire department.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found an unconscious man and began immediate treatment. A medevac helicopter was requested but would not fly because of weather conditions, firefighters said.

The patient was transferred to Wildwood Fire Ambulance, and then to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division with AtlantiCare paramedics on board, firefighters said.

The patient was listed in critical condition at the hospital later Saturday, according to firefighters.
